When working with delicate materials such as Silicone wafers, magnetic disks, or LCD substrates, non-shock actuation must be balanced with high speed/throughput. The REA provides the features needed to allow rapid transfer with a speed of up to 300mm/sec but virtually eliminates shock impact. Integrated cushion spears allow smooth acceleration and deceleration, while also simplifying construction of the cylinder. Based on the magnetically coupled cylinder concept, the REA’s resulting smooth acceleration and deceleration occurs without influence from load, speed, or even pressure fluctuations. REA is available in 5 bore sizes from 25mm to 63mm and strokes up to 1000mm
The REB series is a sine rodless cylinder, with a maximum speed of 600mm/s, available in 3 bore sizes. Model REBR, a non-integrated guide, direct mount type is capable of mounting from the top or one side. Compact, external dimensions allow the REBR to be used when space is very limited. Model REBH is an integrated guide type cylinder. The use of a linear guide facilitates a large load, large moment and high precision. The REBH is available in a one or two axis style.
The transportation of delicate items often requires greater control of cylinder acceleration and deceleration than is afforded by traditional air cushions. For this reason, SMC has developed the REC sine cylinder. The term "sine cylinder" is derived from the shape of the velocity curve at both ends of stroke. This control is achieved with the addition of two grooves on each cushion spear which results in a more gradual initial acceleration or deceleration and smooth transition to or from full speed operation. To accomplish this type of motion with a traditional cylinder typically requires extensive external flow control. REC is a repairable basic cylinder.
